NGC 4533 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Scd in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 75 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of around 50,000 ly. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1557 . In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4527 , NGC 4536 , NGC 4544 , IC 3474 .

The object was discovered in 1877 by Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel .
