NGC 4549 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 609 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on April 24, 1789 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope.
