NGC 4566 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc with an active galaxy core in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is an estimated 243 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the NGC 4686 group ( LGG 300 ).
The object was discovered on April 2, 1791 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope.
