NGC 4587 is a lenticular dwarf galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 37 million light years from the Milky Way and about 10,000 light years in diameter . She is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1763 .
The galaxies NGC 4544 , NGC 4600 , NGC 4636 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 17, 1882 by the astronomer Johann Palisa .
