NGC 4609 is a galactic open star cluster in the south of the constellation Crux , near the center of the Coalsack . The distance from NGC 4609 is estimated to be around 1300 parsecs. The cluster was discovered by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop on May 12, 1826 .
