NGC 4619 is a 12.7 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBb / P in the constellation Canes Venatici on the northern sky . It is an estimated 311 million light years away from the Milky Way , about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In 2006 the Ia supernova SN 2006ac was observed here.
The object was discovered on May 1, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, pL, R, lbM, 2 'Np pretty bright star".
