NGC 4637 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . The galaxy is listed under catalog number VVC 1945 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster . Together with NGC 4638 , it forms a galaxy pair, it is the larger partner.
The galaxies NGC 4638 , NGC 4647 , NGC 4649 , NGC 4667 are located in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered on March 1, 1854 by the Irish astronomer RJ Mitchell , an assistant to William Parsons . A note from the time of discovery describes it as "considerably bright, small, like a 10th-magnitude star".
