NGC 4662 is a 12.7 mag bright bar spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 314 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies IC 3746 , IC 3751 , IC 3772 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 17, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, pL, gbM, resolvable".
