NGC 4679 is a 12.8 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Centaur and about 200 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on April 22nd, 1835 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who marked it with “extremely extremely faint, pretty large, round, 60 arcseconds. (No doubt.) ”.
