NGC 4698 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 43 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy has an angular extent of 4 ′, 0 × 2 ′, 5 and an apparent magnitude of 10.7 mag. Under catalog number VCC 2070 she has been a member of the Virgo cluster of galaxies listed
in the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 3716 , IC 3719 , IC 3754 .

The object was discovered by William Herschel on January 18, 1784 .
