NGC 4694 is a lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 50 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light-years across. She is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 2066 . In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4733 , IC 3727 , IC 3773 , IC 3775 .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel using his 18.7 inch mirror telescope.
