NGC 4733 is a 11.7 likes bright elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 39 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years across. Under the catalog name VCC 2087 , it is considered a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4694 , NGC 4754 , NGC 4762 .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “F not vS”.
