NGC 4738 is a 14.0 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 213 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 130,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 4735 and NGC 4793 , among others .
The object was discovered on March 1, 1851 by the Irish engineer Bindon Blood Stoney , who helped William Parsons as an assistant in the construction of telescopes .
