NGC 4728 (also known as NGC 4728A ) is a 14.6 mag bright, elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 288 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 85,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4692 , NGC 4715 , NGC 4721 , NGC 4745 .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on March 3, 1867 and, together with the non-NGC objects PGC 43462 (called NGC 4728 B ) and PGC 214033 (called NGC 4728 C ), forms an optical triple constellation.
