NGC 4705 is a 12.8 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBBC in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 188 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light-years across.
The galaxies NGC 4697 , NGC 4718 , NGC 4720 , IC 825 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on February 22nd, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "cF, pL, E".
