NGC 4699 is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBb in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 57 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 65,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 4674 , NGC 4703 , NGC 4739 , IC 3826 .

The supernovae SN 1948A and SN 1983K (Type-IIP) were observed here.

The object was discovered by William Herschel on March 3, 1786 .
