NGC 4684 is an 11.5 mag bright, lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type SB0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 66 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 4691 .
The object was discovered on April 17, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “pF, pL, E, r”.
