Ludovic Rodolphe Pissarro (also Ludovic-Rodo or Rodo , born November 21, 1878 in Paris , † 1952 ) was a French painter . He came from the artist family Pissarro .
Live and act
Ludovic-Rodolphe Pissarro was the fourth son of Julie Vellay (1839-1926) and the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro . His siblings were Lucien , Jeanne, Georges Henri , Jeanne (Cocotte) Félix and Paul Émile Pissarro .
Ludovic-Rodolphe was married to Fernande, nee Perrinet, and the marriage remained childless.
Ludovic-Rodolphe began to draw motifs from nature as a boy and was encouraged in his development by his father. At the age of sixteen, Pissarro published his first woodcuts in the anarchist magazine Le Père Peinard in 1894 . When his father left France for Belgium in the course of the Dreyfus affair in the same year, Ludovic-Rodolphe Pissarro joined him. In 1898 he and his brother Georges Henri Manzana Pissarro moved into their first studio in Montmartre, north of Paris . He liked to paint the Parisian nightlife. With his younger brother Paul-Émile Pissarro , he met artists such as Kees van Dongen , Maurice de Vlaminck and Raoul Dufy . In 1905 he took part in the first exhibition on Fauvism in the Salon des Indépendants .
At the beginning of the First World War , Pissarro moved to England in 1914, where he lived mainly in western London. He worked closely with his eldest brother Lucien, with whom he founded the Monarro Group in 1915 to promote Impressionist painting. Many of the works Pissarro produced during his time in England had London landmarks as their theme. In 1924 Pissarro returned to France and lived in Paris and Les Andelys .
His artistic work included oil paintings, tempera, watercolors, gouache, woodcuts, drawings and lithographs. He usually signed his works as Ludovic-Rodo , at the beginning of his career only as Rodo . Over a period of 40 years he exhibited regularly in the Salon des Indépendants of the Société des Artistes Indépendants .
In addition to his artistic work, Ludovic-Rodolphe Pissarro researched his father's paintings for over 20 years and published two volumes in 1939 that are still considered the standard reference work on Camille Pissarro today.
