Maximilien Jules Luce (born March 13, 1858 in Paris ; † February 6, 1941 there ) was a French painter of late impressionism .

Life

Maximilien Luce began his training as an etcher , then trained in the studio of the free Parisian painting school Académie Suisse and then continued his painting studies with Eugène Froment . Here he met the painters Léo Gausson and Emile Cavallo-Peduzzi . Along with Lucien Pissarro , the son of the painter Camille Pissarro , they founded in Lagny the artist group Groupe de Lagny . Together they dealt with the color theories of Georges Seurat and continued his technique of color separation. In addition to Seurat, Camille Corot was one of Luce's artistic models. In addition to numerous landscapes, increasingly portraits were also created from 1887. The artist's extant oeuvre comprises 4,200 paintings and around 3,000 drawings.
