NGC 4674 is a 13.2 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBa in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 62 million light years from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 4699 , NGC 4703 , IC 814 are located in the same area of the sky .
The supernova SN 1907A was observed here.
The object was discovered on May 5, 1836 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, R, glbM, 30 arcseconds".
