NGC 4650 is an 11.8 mag bright bar spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Centaur in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 124 million light years from the Milky Way , about 120,000 light years in diameter, and a member of the Centaurus Galaxy Cluster .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4603 , NGC 4616 , NGC 4622 , NGC 4661 .

The object was discovered on June 26, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which it labeled “vF, R, bM, resolvable. Wind violent ”.
