NGC 4616 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Centaur the southern sky . It is an estimated 197 million light years away from the Milky Way , about 50,000 light years in diameter, and is a member of the Centaurus Galaxy Cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4601 , NGC 4603 , NGC 4622 , NGC 4650 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on June 5, 1834 .
