NGC 4607 is a 13 mag bright barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type "SBb" in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 99 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 85,000 ly and is listed under catalog number VVC 1868 as part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster.
The galaxies NGC 4606 , NGC 4621 , IC 809 , IC 3670 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 24, 1854 by the Irish astronomer RJ Mitchell , an assistant to William Parsons .
