NGC 4600 is a 12.6 likes bright lenticular dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 35 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 15,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VVC 1939 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4587 and NGC 4636 .
The object was discovered on April 30, 1786 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope , which it calls "FS making a triangle with 2Bst." (Abbreviated for "faint, small, making a triangle with two bright stars" , in German "matt, small, forms a triangle together with two stars (( HD 110210 & HD 110222 ))").
