NGC 4576 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 236 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1721 , but it is too far away for that.
The galaxies NGC 4580 and NGC 4586 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 27, 1881 by Edward Singleton Holden .
