William Wright Crouch (* 12. July 1941 in Los Angeles ) is a retired American general of the US Army , who between 1992 and 1994 Commanding General of Camp Humphreys in South Korea stationed Make US Army ( Eighth US Army ) , 1994 to 1997 commanding General of the Seventh US army ( Seventh US army ) in Heidelberg and at the same time between 1996 and 1997 commander of the Allied land forces of NATO in Central Europe COMLANDCENT ( Allied land forces Central Europe ) was. William Wright Crouch attended the Army and Navy Academy in San Diego and then began studying administration at Claremont McKenna College , which he completed with a bachelor's degree . In 1963 he joined the US Army and was platoon commander in the Red Diamond called 5th Infantry Division ( 5th Infantry Division ) . During the Vietnam War he was captain in command of an F-Troop consisting of four companies of the 2nd  Squadron of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and was awarded the Silver Star on September 24, 1967 because of a deployment . On that day, he and two platoons of his troops raided a suspected hostile location, the village of Quy My in the province of Quảng Trị . As they neared the village, heavy automatic weapons and recoilless rifle fire opened on its units. When he learned that the G-Force was stationed on his flank, he maneuvered his platoons to a command post from where they effectively shot at the enemy and prevented him from retreating. When the G-Troop arrived, he led his unit through the village, dug up the firmly anchored enemy forces and destroyed them. He exposed himself to violent enemy fire several times as he led his men against the enemy.

After following numerous other uses as an officer graduated Crouch, the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth and was temporarily commander of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment ( 2nd Cavalry Regiment ) . He also attended the US Army War College in Carlisle and on July 18, 1990 succeeded Major General Thomas P. Carney in command of the Fort Polk stationed 5th Infantry Division ( 5th Infantry Division ) and remained in this post until June 16 1992, whereupon Major General Jared L. Bates took his place.

On December 19, 1992, Lieutenant General William W. Crouch succeeded General Robert W. RisCassi as commanding general of the Eighth US Army ( Eigth US Army ) stationed at Camp Humphreys in South Korea . He held this command until October 1994, when he was replaced by Lieutenant General Richard F. Timmons . As such, he was in South Korea at the same time Chief of Staff of the US armed forces USFK (United States Forces Korea) , of the commands UN UNC (United Nations Command) American South Korean-US and the Joint Forces Command (ROK-US Combined Forces Command) .
