Army Service Ribbon

The Army Service Ribbon is a military decoration of the United States Army . The award has been given since April 10, 1981 for those who have passed basic training . The Army Service Ribbon is also awarded to members of the Reserve and the National Guard .

Soldiers who had completed their basic training before 1981 were also given the award, provided they were still in service. Soldiers who left the Army before 1981 were not subsequently honored with the award. Soldiers who later served again (after 1981) received the award after completing four months of their new service.

The Army Service Ribbon is similar to the Air Force Training Ribbon .

Such awards are also common in other countries, for example in Austria in the form of the military service medal .
