General James C. McConville

James Charles McConville (* 16th March 1959 in Quincy , Massachusetts ) is an American general of the US Army , which since August 9, 2019 Chief of General Staff of the Army ( Chief of Staff of the Army ) is.

Life

James Charles McConville completed an officer training at the US Military Academy in West Point and after graduating with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) joined the US Army as a lieutenant in the infantry in 1981 . He later completed a postgraduate course in aerospace engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Master of Science (M.Sc.). After various posts as an officer and staff officer, he was, among other things, commander of the 2nd  squadron of the 17th Cavalry Regiment , G3 staff officer of the 101st Airborne Division and chief administrative officer of the Vice-Chief of the General Staff of the Army. As an army aviator , he completed training on the attack helicopters Bell OH-58 , Boeing AH-64 , Boeing AH-6 and Bell AH-1 and earned the pilot's badge of the US armed forces (Master Army Aviator Badge) . In 2002 he attended as a National Security Fellow a program at the Harvard University .

During Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq war McConville was between 2004 and 2005 commander of the 1st Armored Division ( 1st Armored Division ) , the "Old Ironsides", belonging to the 4th Brigade. In the course of Operation Enduring Freedom , he was Deputy Commander and Commander of Combined Joint Task Force-101 and later Chief of Legislative Liaison and thus responsible for relations with the US Congress . In August 2011, Major General McConville, succeeding Major General John F. Campbell commander (Commanding General) of the 101st airborne / air assault division ( 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) ) and remained in that post until June 2014, after Major General Gary J. Volesky succeeded him. He then became Deputy Chief of Staff (G1-Personnel) as Lieutenant General in June 2014 and held this post until his replacement by Lieutenant General Thomas C. Seamands in June 2017. On June 16, 2017 General James C. McConville replaced General Daniel B. Allyn as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army ( Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army ) from.

Since August 9, 2019, General McConville is the 40th Chief of Staff of the Army .

His marriage to Maria McConville had three children.
