John H. Tilelli Junior
John Harold Tilelli (* 2. October 1941 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is a retired American officer of the US Army , who as General between 1994 and 1995 Vice-Chief of the Army General Staff ( Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army ) , from 1995 to 1996 Commanding General of the US Army Forces Command ( US Army Forces Command ) and from 1996 to 1999 Commander of the US Forces in Korea ( US Forces Korea ) .
Life
Officer training, Vietnam War and officer uses
John Harold Tilelli grew up in Holmdel Township , New Jersey , and graduated from school with a degree in economics at the Pennsylvania Military College , which became Widener University in 1972 . After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BS Economics) degree in 1963 , he joined the US Army as a lieutenant . In the following years was used twice in the Vietnam War and was there, among other things, company commander and military advisor. Furthermore, he found employment with the US armed forces in the Federal Republic of Germany and also completed a postgraduate course in administration at Lehigh University , which he completed in 1972 with a Master of Arts (MA Administration). He was S1 staff officer and in November 1978 as a lieutenant colonel commander of the 2nd Squadron of the 6th Cavalry Regiment (6th Cavalry Regiment) and Chief of Staff in Ansbach stationed 1st Armored Division ( 1st Armored Division ) . In 1983 he graduated from the US Army War College (USAWC) in Carlisle . As a colonel , he was in 1985 commander of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment stationed in Nuremberg . He was further commander of the training command and the combat and maneuver training center (Training Command and Combat Maneuver Training Center) of the Seventh US Army ( Seventh US Army ) and officer in the Office of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development and Acquisition (Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development and Acquisition) .
Second Gulf War, promotion to General and Vice Chief of Staff of the Army
In July 1990 Tilelli dissolved Brigadier General William F. Streeter as commander of the 1st Cavalry Division ( 1st Cavalry Division ) and remained in this post until July 1992, whereupon Brigadier General Wesley Clark was his successor. He commanded this division at the beginning of the Second Gulf War during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm . In addition, as major general, he was Chief of Staff of the VII US Corps ( VII Corps ) stationed in Stuttgart-Möhringen and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans) and then took over his promotion to lieutenant general the post of Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans) .
In 1994 he succeeded General JH Binford Peay III. Vice-Chief of the Army General Staff ( Vice Chief of Staff of the Army ) , and this function held until his replacement by General Ronald H. Griffith in 1995. He then replaced in 1995 General Dennis Reimer as Commanding General of the US Army Forces Command FORSCOM ( US Army Forces Command ) . He remained in this use until 1966 and was then replaced by General David A. Bramlett . Most recently, on July 9, 1996, General John H. Tilelli took over from General Gary E. Luck as Commander of the US Forces in Korea COMUSFK ( US Forces Korea ) , Commander of the Joint US-South Korean Armed Forces Command CINCCFC (Commanders, ROK / US Combined Forces Command) and Commander in Chief, United Nations Command, Korea CINCUNC . He held this post until December 9, 1999, when General Thomas A. Schwartz succeeded him there. He retired from active military service on January 31, 2000.
Business manager, honorary positions and honorary professor
After his retirement, Tilelli served as President of the United Service Organizations (USO), a non-profit organization dedicated to the assistance and welfare of the United States armed forces and their loved ones . He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of The Aerospace Corporation and was on the board of directors of the defense and electronics group Raytheon until May 4, 2000 . In 2006 he became a board member of Xcelaero . He also received an honorary degree in corporate governance from Widener University in May 1996 and an honorary degree in law from the University of Maryland. He also worked for the Institute for Korean-American Studies ICAS and as Vice President of the Korean Defense Veterans Association ( KDVA ) . In addition, he teaches international development and preventive defense projects as an honorary professor at the Center for International Security and Cooperation of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University .
His marriage to Valerie Tilelli resulted in three daughters.
