Air Medal

The Air Medal is a military award given by the US armed forces .

This decoration was donated on May 11, 1942 under Franklin D. Roosevelt and is awarded for special services in the course of flight missions. It can be awarded retrospectively until September 8, 1939.

Multiple awards were sometimes marked with service stars and until November 22, 1989 and currently again from September 27, 2006 with small golden Arabic numerals on the ribbon. The Air Medal can also be awarded quite often, for example David Haskell Hackworth has received 34 times, Joseph W. Stilwell Jr. 26 times, Joseph Kittinger 24 times and Joseph W. Ralston 20 times.

In the protocol-related ranking ( Order of Precedence ) this award ranks among the Meritorious Service Medal and the Aerial Achievement Medal and Commendation Medals .
