Stephan Thönneßen

Stephan Thönneßen (born March 20, 1962 in Cologne ) is a former German saber fencer and participant in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . He fought at TSV Bayer Dormagen .

In 1978 Thönneßen became German junior champion in saber fencing. Among the active players, he was second at the German championships in 1986 , and third a year later . At the Olympic Games in Seoul, he took part in both the individual and the team. In the individual, he was eliminated as the last of his semi-finals and was 23rd. The team (Thönneßen, Becker , Kempenich , Nolte , Schneider ) was eliminated in the quarter-finals and took sixth place.

Professionally, Thönneßen ran a bookstore for 21 years. He is involved in a variety of voluntary work.
