Jörg Kempenich

Jörg Kempenich (born May 30, 1965 in Bonn ) is a former German saber fencer , vice world champion and participant in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games . He fought at OFC Bonn .

In 1986 Kempenich became German champion in the junior age group. Among the active players, he won three bronze medals at German championships ( 1993 , 1995 and 1996 ).

Kempenich was runner-up with the team at the World Championships in Denver in 1989, along with Frank Bleckmann , Felix Becker , Jürgen Nolte and Ulrich Eifler . A year later the same team finished third at the World Championships in Lyon . Also in 1991 in Budapest won Kempenich a team World Championship bronze medal (with Becker, Nolte, Bleckmann and Jacek Huchwajda ).

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Kempenich was also part of the men's saber team (Becker, Kempenich, Nolte, Schneider , Thönneßen ), which was eliminated in the quarter-finals and was sixth. Four years later he was 17th in the singles at the games in Barcelona , the team (Nolte, Becker, Kempenich, Huchwajda, Wiesinger ) again advanced to the quarter-finals and finished fifth.

Kempenich later took an active part in senior tournaments and, as Vice President of OFC Bonn, was responsible for finances.
