Ulrich "Uli" Eifler (born September 28, 1961 in Marburg ) is a former German saber fencer . He is German champion and three-time medalist at world championships and now works as a sports scientist and athletic trainer at the Tauberbischofsheim Olympic base .

Life

Uli Eifler, whose father worked as a secondary school teacher, began studying at the German Sport University in Cologne after completing his school and military service in 1982 , where he focused, among other things, on rehabilitation sports . Eifler fought for the OFC Bonn and later for the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club . Today Eifler works as a qualified sports teacher and fencing teacher at the Tauberbischofsheim Olympic base.

Career

The saber fencer Uli Eifler began his fencing career in 1972 at TV Alsfeld. At the age of 23 he switched to the sports boarding school in Bonn and was able to win a silver medal in the men's saber at the German fencing championships in 1985 . At the fencing world championships in Denver in 1989 , the Eifler, who started for OFC Bonn, won the silver medal with the saber team. In the same year he became German champion with the active saber. At the fencing world championships in 1990 in Lyon , Eifler won the bronze medal with the saber team and at the German fencing championships in 1991 he won the silver medal in the saber.

In 1991 Eifler actually wanted to end his international career and concentrate on his profession as a fencing teacher, before the fencing world championships in 1993 in his own country induced him to make a comeback at the Tauberbischofsheim fencing club , which in Essen won the bronze medal with the saber Team was rewarded. At the German fencing championships in 1992 and 1994 he achieved two more silver medals. In the following World Cup tournaments, Eifler also managed to convince with two placements among the top three.
