The Olympic Fencing Club Bonn (OFC Bonn) is a fencing club based in Bonn . The association is of particular historical importance, as it carried out the founding meeting of the German Fencing Federation and the first fencing tournament on German soil after the Second World War . Members of the association were able to achieve great success at the Olympic Games; Benjamin Kleibrink won the gold medal in men's floret at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

history

The Olympic Fencing Club Bonn was founded on October 4, 1949. When it was entered in the register of associations on November 12, 1949, it had a total of 33 members. In the same month he organized the founding meeting of the German Fencing Federation, a few days later the first German fencing tournament after the Second World War was held. Fencers from Bonn have competed at the Olympic Games since the 1960s, and from the beginning they have regularly secured podium places. In 1979 the construction of a new fencing hall began. In 2008 Benjamin Kleibrink won the gold medal in the individual rating in the men's floret at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Base functions

Within the DOSB support point concept, the OFC Bonn is today one of three federal support points for active people in fencing, alongside the Tauberbischofsheim Fecht Club and Heidenheimer SB .

Club life

The club has its own fencing hall, which was built in 1979. A total of 12 lanes are available there. Several tournaments are held, for example the Lion of Bonn, which took place for the 46th time in 2018. The association runs the milestone campaign, in which the names of financial supporters of the association are placed in plexiglass signs on a wall.
