The Silver Star (German silver star ) is an order of the US armed forces for special bravery before the enemy. The original Citation Star was added to the band of the respective "Campaign Medal" awarded for the respective campaign.

Award criteria

The Citation Star is awarded for bravery during use or combat. This resulted in the foundation of the Silver Star in 1932 , which, since December 15, 1942, may also be awarded to civilians who were deployed with US troops. The Silver Star is the fourth highest award in the pyramid of awards for the US armed forces ( "Congressional Pyramid of Honor for combat bravery" ), which is awarded to a member of the US armed forces and the third highest award that can be given for bravery in combat .

The Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross of the armed forces, as awards for bravery in combat, are valued above the Silver Star . This is followed by the Army Distinguished Service Medal or the comparable individual merit awards of the armed forces for extraordinary merits without proof of bravery in combat.

The Silver Star can also be awarded to members of allied units.
