NGC 4584 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa with extensive star formation regions in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 77 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. Together with eight other galaxies, it is part of the NGC 4461 group ( LGG 286 ) and under catalog number VCC 1757 it is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4569 , IC 3583 , IC 3611 , IC 3631 .
