NGC 4606 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 71 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 70,000 ly and is listed under catalog number VVC 1859 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4407 , IC 809 , IC 3624 , IC 3670 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by William Herschel .
