George Washington triplet

George Washington Triplett (born February 18, 1809 in Franklin County , Kentucky , † June 25, 1894 in Owensboro , Kentucky) was an American lawyer and politician and officer in the Confederate Army .

Career

George Washington Triplett, son of Nancy Popham and Hedgeman Triplett, was born in Franklin County about three years before the outbreak of the British-American War . His great-grandfather, John Triplett, immigrated to Virginia from England during the colonial era . His grandfather, also known as John Triplett, was born in Culpeper County and worked as a state surveyor. For this he received a commission from George III. , King of England. During the War of Independence , he fought with five of his sons in the Continental Army . The names of his sons were: John, Roger, William, Nathaniel and Hedgeman. Hedgeman Triplett was also born in Culpeper County around 1760. He was just 16 years old when he ran away from home to join the army at the start of the War of Independence. At the age of 18 he held the rank of lieutenant and served until the end of the war. In this regard, he took part in the battles of Guilford Court House , Cowpens and Brandywine . He and his brothers, with the exception of Roger, who was badly wounded, took part in the Battle of Yorktown . John and Roger each held the rank of captain . Hedgeman married Miss Nancy Popham in 1782, daughter of Ann Nall and Job Popham, who came to Massachusetts as a government representative to set up a colony, but it failed.

Nothing is known about the youth of George Washington Triplett. Triplet moved to Daviess County at some point . He worked as a land surveyor. At one point he studied law and began practicing as a lawyer after receiving his license. He later held the office of judge. On December 18, 1827, he married Pamela Andres Head (1810-1891). The couple had at least three children together: Robert Samuel (1830-1905), Sarah Kate (1832-1852) and Octavia V. (1843-1872). Triplett sat in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1840 . His parliamentary term was overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 . Between 1848 and 1852 he was a member of the Kentucky Senate . At the beginning of 1848 the Mexican-American War had ended. After the outbreak of the civil war , he enlisted in the Confederate Army . He held the rank of major . Between 1864 and 1865 he represented the Second Constituency of Kentucky in the Second Confederate Congress . He probably resumed his work as a lawyer after the end of the war. Triplet was a Baptist . He died in Owensboro in 1894 and was buried there in Rosehill Elmwood Cemetery .

A descendant of George Washington Triplett is the diplomat Charles O. Cecil .
