Owensboro is the fourth largest city in the US state of Kentucky and the county seat of Daviess County with over 57,000 residents . The city is named after the politician Abraham Owen (1769–1811).
Owensboro describes himself due to take place there every year " International Bar-BQ Festival " as "BBQ Capital of the World" (barbecue capital of the world) .
Owensboro is the seat of the Owensboro Diocese .

Owensboro's geographic coordinates are 37 ° 45 ′ N , 87 ° 7 ′ W (37.757748, −87.118390). The place is about 50 km southeast of Evansville , Indiana on the southern bank of a bend of the Ohio River . US Highway 60 runs through the town in an east-west direction. US Highway 431 branches off downtown to the south. US Highway 231 runs north-south from Owensville past the metropolitan area. A bypass road, the Wendell Ford Bypass , leads the through traffic south around the city and mainly connects the Audubon Parkway coming from Henderson to the west with the William H. Natcher Green River Parkway leading south-east to Bowling Green .
Owensboro-Daviess County Airport is located in southwest Owensboro .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 48.3 km² , of which 45.1 km² is land and 3.2 km² is water.
