NGC 4645 is an elliptical cD galaxy of the Hubble type E4 in the constellation Centaur in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 110 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4661 , NGC 4672 , NGC 4677 , NGC 4683 .
The object was discovered on June 8, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pretty bright, small, pretty suddenly brighter in the middle, 12 arcseconds".
