NGC 4653 is a 12.1 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 114 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4632 , NGC 4642 , NGC 4666 , NGC 4668 .

The supernovae SN 1999gk (Type II) and SN 2009ik ( Type Ia ) were observed here.

The object was discovered on April 11, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, pL".
