NGC 4660 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E2 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 46 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VVC 2000 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 3698 , IC 3701 , IC 3711 , IC 3743 .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
