NGC 4712 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 196 million light years from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4725 and NGC 4747 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 28, 1832 .
