NGC 4719 is an active bar-spiral galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is an estimated 318 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on May 3, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “vF, stellar, or little larger”.
