IC 1613 is an irregular dwarf galaxy of type IB (s) m in the constellation Cetus in the southern sky . It has an apparent magnitude of 9.3 mag and an angular dimension of 16.6 '× 14.9'. It is around 2.4 million light years away from the solar system and has a diameter of around 11,000 light years . The object is a member of the local group .

Most of the stars in IC 1613 are around 7 billion years old, but there are quite a few young stars as the GALEX image below shows. Among them are at least five population -II Cepheids and some RR Lyrae - variable .
