IC 1622 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is about 284 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 369 and IC 1623 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on November 19, 1897 .
