IC 1629 is a compact galaxy of Hubble type C in the constellation Cetus the southern sky . It is estimated to be 564 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 83 .
The object was discovered on December 22, 1897 by the French astronomer Stéphane Javelle .
