IC 1628 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 / P in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is an estimated 254 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 423 .
The object was discovered on October 12, 1897 by the French astronomer Lewis Swift .
