IC 1609 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 307 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 324 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 4, 1897 .
