NGC 324 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 152 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy IC 1609 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 23, 1835 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
